The Pattern
The Tic Tac Toe Cardigan is the kind of project that feels as good to make as it does to wear. The stitch pattern used for this collection is the beloved tic tac toe stitch from Chapter 1 of the book (the Tic Tac Toe Sweater Lite and the Tic Tac Toe Scarf Lite), but reimagined through a heavier weight yarn and a slightly larger gauge. This allows for faster progress while maintaining the sophisticated look of the finished pieces.
The cardi is worked flat in one piece, with just two simple seams, proof that great construction doesn’t have to be complicated. The boxy, semi-cropped fit drapes effortlessly, while bishop sleeves add a touch of volume and elegance. The ribbed edges tie everything together for a refined finish, and the double lapel buttons are a fun detail that make this cardigan uniquely yours. Whether layered over a dress or paired with jeans, it’s a versatile staple that invites everyday wear.
And if you’re in the mood for a smaller, equally charming project, check out the coordinating Tic Tac Toe Earwarmer!

Size 3, using 699 yds of Berroco Vintage DK as MC, and 1035 yds of Berroco Vintage DK as CC
Hook size(s): 3.5 mm; 4 mm
Mods: I made the lapel and bottom hem 5 stitches longer (to give me an extra inch long). For the collar I alternated 3 slip stitches with 2 slip stitches to let it not pull up quite so much (again about the length on me).

Clare (clareplaisance on Ravelry)
Size 3, using 865 yds of Wecrochet/Knitpicks Hawthorne DK Rose City Multi as MC, and 1080 yds of Wecrochet/Knitpicks Hawthorne DK Bare as CC
Hook size(s): 4 mm; 4.5 mm; 7 mm
Mods: I was really struggling with the mattress stitch through multiple posts and chains when joining the sides and sleeves so I mattress stitched through spaces and it looks very good on the right side but there is a pretty prominent, although very even, stripe of the MC on the wrong side of this seam.

Nazrien (Gyp5y1nRhaps0dy on Ravelry)
Size 3, using 930 yds of Alize Cotton Gold as MC, and 645 yds of DMC Confetti as CC
Hook size(s): 3 mm; 4 mm
Mods: I used a different color for the ribbed stitch section as opposed to the MC color. But apart from that no change to the pattern.

Helen (Helenmarie on Ravelry)
Size 3, using 650 yds of Stylecraft Special DK as MC, and 1191 yds of Stylecraft Special DK as CC
Hook size(s): 3.5 mm; 4 mm; 6 mm
Mods: None.

Rachel (MadeWithRage on Ravelry)
Size 3, using 765 yds of Malabrigo Rios as MC, and 1100 yds of Cascade Yarns Super Wash 220 as CC
Hook size(s): 3.5 mm
Mods: None.

Andrea (ndrainwooldeland on Ravelry)
Size 3, using 800 yds of Yarn Away All Day Hand-dyed Yarn as MC, and 1000 yds of Bendigo Woolen Mills as CC
Hook size(s): 4.5 mm
Mods: None.

Tetiana (ostannja on Ravelry)
Size 2, using 760 yds of Wendy Merino DK Knitting Yarn as MC, and 900 yds of Draco Fabifil as CC
Hook size(s): 4 mm
Mods: I sewed two layers of fabric on the RS and then two ones on the WS (red dotted lines), instead of going through all 4 layers simultaneously. It takes me longer, but I was sure not to miss no one layer.

Zohnette (Queen4christ on Ravelry)
Size 2, using 750 yds of Mischieved Managed Swanky DK By Magpie Fibers as MC, and 1414 yds of Montana Crochet DK SW merino in Lagoon as CC
Hook size(s): 2.5 mm; 2.75mm
Mods: I added an additional repeat right before the split of sleeves (by mistake). I also added one additional repeat at the first sleeve section to make the sleeves wider.

Sunhee (Sunnysunshine83 on Ravelry)
Size 2, using 570 yds of Bendigo Woollen Mills Cotton 8 ply as MC, and 820 yds of Bendigo Woollen Mills Classic Wool 8 ply as CC

Size 2, using 580 yds of Lion Brand Coboo as MC, and 812 yds of Lion Brand Coboo as CC
Hook size(s): 4 mm; 5 mm; 6 mm
Mods: I just made the button holes a little bigger so I could fit my buttons through them.
