The Pattern

Meet the Purpureal Shawl, a delicate lace shawl named after the soft lavender colorway in which it was first crocheted.

Light, airy, and full of detail, this shawl is the kind of accessory that feels like a celebration of spring. The main stitch pattern combines treble crochets and chain spaces in an easy-to-memorize two-row repeat that works up faster than you’d think. The fabric is open and lacey, yet surprisingly textured and three-dimensional. A delicate lace border finishes the edge for a polished, elegant touch.

With a generous wingspan of 70 inches (178 cm) and a depth of 31 inches (80 cm), the Purpureal Shawl drapes beautifully over the shoulders and is just as lovely worn as a wrap as it is tied loosely around the neck. Whether you work it in the original lavender or choose a colorway entirely your own, this is a project you will be proud to wear for many springs to come.

Hooks

US E-4/3.5 mm hook or size needed to obtain gauge. I’m a tight crocheter, so you may have to go down in hook size.

Notions

Scissors, yarn needle, tape measure, 1 stitch marker, blocking mat and pins.

Yardage

8 skeins or approximately 1300 yds/1190 m

A word from my testers

This was a fantastic pattern and the photo tutorials were absolutely incredible. This pattern was very easy to memorize and I would refer to this pattern as a GREAT Netflix and Crochet pattern as you don’t need to refer back to the pattern at all with the two-row repeat.
