The Pattern

Meet the Tic Tac Toe Sweater Lite: a playful twist on classic design that brings interlocking crochet into the spotlight. This reversible crochet sweater pattern features a mesmerizing grid of bold “plus” signs on one side and delicate little squares on the other. Two textures + one fabric = total magic!

Worked flat and seamed together like puzzle pieces, each panel fits perfectly to create a polished, lightweight silhouette that drapes just right.

With long, tapered sleeves and subtle shoulder shaping, this crochet pattern strikes the perfect balance between relaxed comfort and modern sophistication.

Pair it with its matching Tic Tac Toe Scarf Lite for a complete look, or let the sweater steal the show on its own. Whether you’re dressing up for brunch or cozying up at home, this reversible beauty is guaranteed to turn heads, no matter which side you wear out 💕

Shelly (tombohandmade on Ravelry)

Size 1, using 1200 yds of Lily & Pine as MC, and 1200 yds of Lily & Pine as CC
Hook size(s): 3.25 mm, 2.75 mm

Mods: The most significant change was the length of the sweater. I’m very petite and thought this sweater design would look best hitting at or near my waist. I think I was right because I love the finished product so much.

Norma (NDCreations on Ravelry)

Size 6, using 2730 yds of Hobbii Rainbow Bamboo as MC, and 1092 yds of Hobbii Rainbow Bamboo as CC
Hook size(s): 3 mm; 3.5 mm
Mods: I made the sleeves/sleeve panels slightly shorter. I did 13 repeats of the panel inset then adjusted the length of the sleeve underarm accordingly.

Alex (CraftingAlex on Ravelry)

Size 1, using 1325 yds of Häkeln Mit Nicje Uni (cotton/acrylic blend) as MC, and 690 yds of Häkeln Mit Nicje Bunter Mix (cotton/acrylic) as CC
Hook size(s): 3.5 mm
Mods: Because of my small wrists I made the cuffs narrower (with 3 SLST instead of 2 SLST).

Alexis (morbidmoggymakes on Ravelry)

Size 4, using 1800 yds of Paintbox DK as MC, and 900 yds of James C Brett Shhh as CC
Hook size(s): 3 mm
Mods: None.

Johanna (HookYarnTinker on Ravelry)

Size 5, using 2165 yds of Monaco 6 Ply Natural Cotton as MC, and 1300 yds of CBC 12-Ply Fine Cotton Yarn as CC
Hook size(s): 3.25 mm
Mods: I shortened the sleeves and I also used the CC yarn for my ribbings because it’s softer than the MC yarn.

Halima (Halimawana on Ravelry)

Size 2, using 1200 yds of Alize Diva as MC, and 800 yds of Scheepjes Whirl Rose Water Cocktail as CC
Hook size(s): 3 mm; 3.5 mm
Mods: None.

Lydia (FoldedMoth on Ravelry)

Size 5, using 1860 yds of Paintbox 4Ply Cotton as MC, and 886 yds of Berrocco Summer Sesame as CC
Hook size(s): 3.5 mm
Mods: None.

Meghan (@martialartsandcraftsclub on Instagram)

Size 2, using 1440 yds of Loops and Threads Silky Soft as MC, and 720 yds of Loops and Threads Silky Soft as CC
Hook size(s): 3 mm; 4 mm
Mods: No, but if I had to remake it I would probably make the arm panels a little shorter.

Samantha (Samme903 on Ravelry)

Size 6, using 2870 yds of Yarnalia Marvel in “Raven” as MC, and 1070 yds of Spincycle in “By Any Other Name” as CC
Hook size(s): 3 mm; 3.5 mm
Mods: The collar did seem to fold up a little bit. I might have made a couple less rows around the inner corners.

Lenith (Lenithcrochet on Ravelry)

Size 3, using 1640 yds of Silvia Wawita as MC, and 780 yds of Silvia Wawita Print as CC
Hook size(s): 3 mm; 3.5 mm
Mods: I shortened the front and back panels for one repetition or it would have been too long for my height and likes. I omitted 5 rows from the underarm panel for a tighter fit, consequently, I had to also reduce these rows from the sleeve underarms to match the width of the body underarms. The length of the sleeves was fine before ribbing, so instead of chaining 11 for the cuffs, I chained 7 only. Also, to reduce the cuff circumference, I alternated 2 SLST and then 3 SLST when making the ribbing.

Vera (Verabrue on Ravelry)

Size 1, using 985 yds of Filcolana Merci (color 616) as MC, and 700 yds of Filcolana Merci (color 614) as CC
Hook size(s): 3 mm; 3.5 mm
Mods: I made the sweater 1 repeat shorter (so 10 instead of 11 on the back and 9 instead of 10 on the front panel). I made the ribbed hem 11 instead of 16 stitches long. I added 4 rows on the underarm panel on each side. I increased every 6th row on the sleeve underarm panel instead of every 10th to get the needed width but only needed 128 rows to get it to the same length as the interlocking sleeve panels.

Aubrey (StarlingandSimon on Ravelry)

Size 3, using 1425 yds of Patons Linen (Sweet Potato) as MC, and 670 yds of Patons Linen (Soft Pink) as CC
Hook size(s): 3.5 mm; 4 mm
Mods: I reduced the body length. I also tend to have some sensory issues and didn’t want the neckline to feel too low in the back, so I removed 1 pattern repeat from the shoulder lengths in both front and back. These changes resulted in having 11 body repeats + 1 shoulder repeat on the back panel and 10 body repeats + 2 shoulder repeats on the front panel (instead of 13 + 2 and 12 + 3, respectively). This also meant I had to adjust the underarm panel lengths – this ended up being 51 SC up the sides of the body panels instead of 83 that the size 3 pattern called for in Section 3.1 Row 1. I kept the 29 rows of moss stitch repeats the same. I also added a row of SC up both long sides of the underarm sleeve panels to make seaming them to the interlocked sleeve panels look neater and feel flatter.

Size 4, using 1640 yds of Järbo Colin as MC, and 820 yds of Järbo Colin as CC
Hook size(s): 2 mm; 2.5 mm

Size 7, using 3496 yds of Yarnsmiths Merino Sock Superwash as MC, and 1311 yds of Yarnsmiths Merino Sock Superwash as CC
