Scheepjes Stone Washed XL (aran)

The Every Which Way Beanie is the ultimate stash buster. Make it in any yarn weight your heart desires – the texture will look beautiful in every yarn.
The pattern works up quickly, featuring your new next favorite stitch: the linked double crochet. This modified stitch is a fun spin on the regular double crochet, and you will be surprised by how easy, fast, and beautifully textured it is!

A “graded to measure” pattern

In order to make this pattern work for any yarn weight, there is no fixed gauge provided. You are instructed to use any yarn weight and a suitable hook size – the pattern guides you through picking an appropriate hook size.
Stitch counts are not provided at the end of each round. Rather, the pattern guides you to crochet until you reach a certain amount of inches/cm corresponding to your size. I call this a “graded to measure” pattern, and it’s what allows you to use any yarn weight to make this beanie. Each combination of yarn weight, fiber, color, and hook size will produce a totally different beanie.

Each hat will truly be unique!

Like all CrochetHighway patterns, this upper beginner pattern has you covered with step-by-step instructions, tutorial photos and videos for the trickier parts of the pattern. You’ll be whipping up this beanie on repeat!

Sizing

The pattern is written for 7 sizes as follows: 1 (2, 3, 4) (5, 6, 7), corresponding to Toddler, Child/Adult XXS, Tween/Adult XS, Teen/Adult Small, Adult Medium, Adult Large, Adult Extra Large.

This beanie is designed to be worn with approx. 2-5 cm (1-2″) of negative ease at the ribbed brim.

The finished measurements and corresponding head circumferences are provided in the following table:

Yardage

Yardages are approximate and reflect the yarn usage of the designer samples. Your yardage may vary based on yarn, measurements and gauge.

Tried & tested substitution yarns

My testers used a variety of yarns in both sport and DK weight to make their Libra Bags. Here’s a list of yarns recommended by my testers. The list is sorted alphabetically. If you’re looking for inspiration or a quick yarn substitution idea, this is the place to start!
