1 pattern, 2 beanies
A sister pattern to the Scorpio Raglan, the Scorpio Beanie uses the same reversible stitch pattern so you can make yourself a matching set. The beanie is worked from the top down, starting with the crown and increasing your way down until you reach the final circumference. This is where the interlocking fun starts!
Just like the all the other designs in the #MyZodiacSweater collection, for the reversible section of this beanie you’ll only have to work with 1 color at a time, dropping the inactive yarn at the start of a round and picking it back up at the start of the new round.
The pattern also provides instructions on how to turn the Scorpio Beanie into a Scorpio Bucket Hat!
Like most CrochetHighway patterns, the Scorpio Beanie comes with step-by-step instructions and tutorial photos including on how to check for gauge. The instructions and tutorial photos walk you through every step along the way with no guesswork left for you. The pattern also comes with a stitch chart for the gauge swatch.
The pattern calls for DK weight yarn (category 3) in at least 1 main color (MC), and 1 contrast color (CC). My testers used a variety of yarns and colors to show off this design – check out the tester photo gallery below to find all the details on yarns and yardages from my testers!

I think this is a fantastic pattern! For makers who are hesitant to try the Scorpio Raglan, I think this beanie would be a great first step for them to get the hang of the stitches first.
I absolutely loved this pattern! Working through the gauge swatch was the perfect amount of practice to get a hang for the pattern repeat to be able to work up quickly. I loved learning a new technique and getting to test another beautiful pattern from you!
This was such a fun pattern! I have never done interlocking rows and the pattern was so well written, I had no issues.
Even requiring some attention, it’s a very accessible pattern and a beautiful result!

Designer samples
The burgundy beanie is a size 3 and uses Katia Basic Merino (WPI=10.5) in color 28 as MC and 83 as CC.
The green beanie is a size 3 and uses Lion Brand Superwash Merino (WPI=11) in Sage as MC and Elm as CC.
The purple beanie is also a size 4 and uses Katia Basic Merino in color 101 as MC and Blackwattle Blue Gum 8 ply (WPI=10.5) in White Opal as CC.
Size 3 has a lot more negative ease on my head but I love it because it keeps my hair in place and it doesn’t move. The purple hat in size 4 is warmer, thicker (due to the slightly thicker yarn), and has a looser and more comfortable fit.
The WPI of these yarns is 11, although I feel like the Katia Basic Merino is ever-so-slightly thicker. Learn how to measure the WPI of your yarn.
Invisible join on the back
In any handmade wearable, the back is just as important as the front, wouldn’t you agree? That’s why at the end of every round, the pattern instructs you how to close the round and start the next so that the seam is as hidden as possible. This way the back will look just as flawless as the front!

Materials & yardage
Hooks: Your 4.0 mm hook or size needed to obtain gauge. I like to use my Clover Amour and my Furls hooks.
Notions: Tape measure, scissors, darning needle, 2 locking stitch markers.
Yarn: You’ll need at least two colors. A main color (MC), and a contrasting color (CC) of any DK weight yarn you can meet gauge with. I used LB Collection Superwash Merino for my green beanie, Katia Basic Merino for my burgundy beanie, and Blackwattle Blue Gum 8 ply paired with Katia Basic Merino for my purple beanie.
